Invocation  (Unison)

Merciful God, you sent your messengers, the prophets, to preach repentance and prepare the way for our salvation.  Give us grace to heed their warnings and forsake our sins, that we may greet with joy the coming of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen.

CONFESSION AND AFFIRMATION

Silent Meditation

Call to Confession    (Pastor)

Christ demands that if we belong to Him, the whole of our nature must be remade.  It is not sufficient to deal with one or two sins or to add one or two new duties.  We must be born again.

Prayer of Confession       (Unison)

God, your Son Jesus Christ has taught us that power belongs to you.  You have shared your power with us.  Yet, we confess we have not accepted the power you have given us.  We have allowed others to use power to dominate people and nations, exploiting them, creating wars, and accumulating wealth.  Today you offer us your power, so that we can help change the world, announce your kingdom, and acknowledge you, the source of all power.  For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever.  Amen.

Assurance of Forgiveness    (Pastor)

When we walk out of the light of God, we stumble.  God accepts and forgives our stumbling and is always there to help us back into the light.  Yes, we are accepted, forgiven, and made new by God.  Thanks be to God.
