November 3, 2002 Bulletin
As you prepare your hearts
and your minds for worship, reflect on these words:
“By giving up Jesus to be crucified, God has set up the cross for
us… The cross becomes a present reality in the sacraments. In baptism men and women are baptized into
Christ’s death (Romans 6:3). At every
celebration of the Lord’s Supper the death of Christ is proclaimed (I
Corinthians 11:26). The communicants
thereby partake of his crucified body and his blood outpoured (I Corinthians
10:16). Again, the cross of Christ is
an ever-present reality in the every day life of the Christians.

Good morning!

thanks to the Lord, for he is good;

for His steadfast love endures forever.

*Hymn No. 64 “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty”
Invocation (Unison)
We thank you, O Lord, for your gracious blessing. We thank you for the gift of life and
health, for family and friends, for work to do and the capacity to serve. Most of all, we thank you for the salvation
you have made available through Jesus Christ, and for the presence of your Holy
Spirit in our lives. In Jesus’
name. Amen.
Call to Confession
(Pastor)
Although communion and fellowship with God and our neighbors
in loving devotion is our aim, we mar these relationships through sin. We fail in our loving and trusting. Our prayer to God serves as a tool for
reconciliation, healing, and wholeness in broken relationships with God and
those about us.
Prayer of Confession (Unison)
Have mercy on us, O God, in your goodness; in your great
tenderness wipe away our faults. Wash
us clean of our guilt; purify us from our sin.
God, create a clean heart in us; put into us a new and constant spirit. Be our Savior again. Renew our joy, keep our spirit steady and
willing. We pray this through Christ
our Lord. Amen.
Assurance of Forgiveness
(Pastor)
The almighty and merciful God grant us pardon and remission
of all our sins, time for amendment of life, and the grace and comfort of the
Holy Spirit. Thanks be to God.

Taking the Bread and Cup
The Great Thanksgiving
Leader: The Lord be
with you.
People:
And also with you.
Leader: Lift up your
hearts.
People:
We lift them up to the Lord.
Leader: Let us give
thanks to the Lord our God.
People:
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
Leader: It is right,
and a good and joyful thing, always and every-where to give thanks to you,
almighty God, creator of heaven and earth.
You formed us in your image and breathed on us the breath of life. When we turned away, and our love failed,
your love remained steadfast. You
delivered us from captivity, made covenant to be our sovereign God, brought to
us a land flowing with milk and honey, and set before us the way of life. And so with your people on earth and all the
company of heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn.
People:
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are
full of your glory. Hosanna in the
highest. Blessed is he who comes in the
name of the Lord. Hosanna in the
highest.
Leader: Holy are
you, and blessed is your Son Jesus Christ.
By the baptism of his suffering, death, and resurrection you gave birth
to your Church, delivered us from slavery to sin and death, and made with us a
new covenant by water and the Spirit.
By your great mercy we have been born anew to a living hope through the
resurrection of your Son from the dead and to an inheritance that is
imperishable, undefiled, and unfading.
Once we were no people, but now we are your people, declaring your
wonderful deeds in Christ, who called us out of darkness in his marvelous
light. When the Lord Jesus ascended, he
promised to be with us always, in the power of your Word and the Holy Spirit.
On the night in which he gave himself up for us He took
bread, gave thanks to you, gave it to his disciples, and said: “Take, eat; this is my body which is given
for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
When the supper was over, he took the cup, gave thanks to
you, gave it to his disciples, and said:
“Drink from this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant
poured out for you and for many for the forgive- ness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance
of me.”
On the day you raised him from the dead he was recognized by
his disciples in the breaking of the bread, and in the power of your Holy
Spirit has continued in the breaking of the bread and the sharing of the cup.
And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus
Christ, we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving as a holy and living
sacrifice, in union with Christ’s offering for us, as we proclaim the mystery
of faith.
People: Christ has
died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.
Leader: Pour out
your Holy Spirit on us gathered here, and on these gifts of bread and wine.
Make them be for us the body and blood of Christ, that we may be for the world
the body of Christ. By your Spirit make
us one with Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world,
until Christ comes in final victory and we feast at his heavenly banquet. Through your Son Jesus Christ, with your
holy Church, all honor and glory is yours, almighty God, now and forever.
People: Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer
Leader: And now,
with the confidence of children of God, let us pray:
People: Our
Father…..
